Tesla sues Cybertruck supplier amid standoff keeping production hostage

July 28, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 0

This is car industry news with no real bearing on home energy upgrades, but here's what happened: Tesla is suing a supplier, Angstrom Automotive Group, to get emergency court access to a factory in Troy, Texas, so it can retrieve manufacturing equipment needed to keep building the Cybertruck. Angstrom is closing the plant and has blocked Tesla from entering to remove its tooling, which includes large die-casting machines, trim dies, and inspection equipment custom-built for Cybertruck parts.

Tesla says it can't make these parts anywhere else, and rebuilding the tooling from scratch would take five to six months. Its stock of the affected parts is reportedly close to running out. Angstrom, meanwhile, sent Tesla a bill for modifications it made to the tooling and reportedly offered to keep the plant running only if Tesla pays an extra $250,000 a week on top of existing orders. Tesla is not seeking money in the lawsuit, just a court order letting it into the plant to collect its own equipment.

For homeowners, this doesn't connect to home energy efficiency, solar, or rebate programs. It's a supply chain and legal dispute affecting Tesla's vehicle production, not anything that changes electricity rates, incentives, or equipment available for home upgrades.
