Linea Energy closes debt financing and preferred equity for 250 MW / 500 MWh Texas battery project

October 5, 2026 · PV Magazine USA · Score: 18

A company called Linea Energy has lined up financing to build a large battery storage project in Upton County, Texas. The project, called Mesa View, will store 500 megawatt-hours of electricity and can discharge 250 megawatts at a time, enough to send a meaningful amount of power onto the Texas grid when needed. It's expected to start operating in 2027.

This isn't a project homeowners can sign up for or get a rebate from. It's a utility-scale battery that will feed into the ERCOT grid, which serves most of Texas. These batteries store electricity when it's cheap and plentiful, often from solar and wind farms, then release it later when demand is high or the sun isn't shining and the wind isn't blowing. More storage like this is meant to make the grid more reliable as Texas adds more solar and wind power.

For homeowners, projects like Mesa View matter mainly in the background: more battery storage on the grid can help prevent the kind of strain that leads to blackouts or price spikes during heat waves or cold snaps. If you live in Texas, this is part of a broader buildout of storage capacity meant to keep the lights on as the state's power mix shifts. It doesn't change what's available to you directly, but it's a sign of how much battery storage is being built to support the grid you draw power from.
