Xpanner launches satellite-guided pile distribution tool for utility-scale solar sites
A construction tech company called Xpanner has released a new tool aimed at large, utility-scale solar farm construction, not the kind of rooftop solar most homeowners install. The tool, called Shake-Out, uses satellite positioning to guide equipment operators as they lay out the structural piles (posts driven into the ground) that hold up solar panel arrays before construction crews drive them in.
The system replaces the old method of using physical survey pins in the ground, which can get lost, buried, or flooded and require re-measuring. Instead, operators see a screen in their equipment cab showing where each pile needs to go, with visual and sound cues guiding them into place. The screen also color-codes different pile types and lets operators log finished work with a tap, which updates a live map that project managers can check remotely.
