Waymo says it has stopped 841 injuries in 271 million autonomous miles
This story is outside what we normally cover here, since it's about self-driving cars, not home energy upgrades. But briefly: Waymo, the robotaxi company, released new safety data covering 271 million driverless miles through June. It reports an 82% drop in crashes causing injury and a 95% drop in crashes causing serious injury, compared to human drivers. The company says results were even better for people outside cars, with 86% fewer injury crashes involving cyclists and 93% fewer involving pedestrians.
Waymo estimates that, across all those miles, its cars avoided 841 crashes that would have caused injury, including 175 involving pedestrians, cyclists, or motorcyclists, and 55 that would have been serious or worse. Some outside groups have checked similar claims before and found smaller, though still positive, safety improvements over human driving.
This has nothing to do with home energy upgrades or rebates, so there is no action for you to take based on it. It is simply a data update on how Waymo's driverless vehicles are performing on safety as the company expands its operations.
