Waymo Opens To Everyone In San Antonio, San Diego, & Tampa
This is a transportation story, not an energy-efficiency one, but here's what happened: Waymo's self-driving taxi service is now open to anyone in San Antonio, San Diego, and Tampa. Previously the service had limits on who could use it in these cities; now anyone can download the Waymo app and hail a ride. The company says hundreds of thousands of people have already ridden in these three cities since the service launched earlier in the year.
In San Antonio, the service now reaches the international airport, giving travelers a robotaxi option for trips downtown or to catch early flights. City aviation officials called it a milestone for the airport. In San Diego, a local seniors' advocacy group noted the service could help older adults get around without needing to drive themselves, framing it as a way to support independence for people who no longer drive.
This doesn't connect to home energy upgrades or rebates, so there's nothing here that affects weatherization plans, heat pump purchases, or utility programs. It's simply a sign that driverless ride-hailing is expanding into more everyday use in these three metro areas, alongside other cities where Waymo already operates.
