Waymo Hits Summer Break With Coast-to-Coast Expansion

July 9, 2026 · CleanTechnica · Score: 0

This is about robotaxis, not home energy upgrades, so it has no direct bearing on planning a retrofit or finding rebates for your house. Still, here's what happened: Waymo, the self-driving car company, is expanding its driverless taxi service to four new cities — San Diego, Las Vegas, Tampa, and Denver. Service will start with Waymo employees riding first, with public access expected to follow soon. Once open to the public, riders in these cities will be able to download the Waymo app and hail a car with no driver, joining more than 10 other cities where that's already possible.

Separately, Waymo also said it has begun testing a new vehicle in its fleet, the Hyundai IONIQ 5, though for now these are driven with a human specialist on board while the company checks that the technology works before letting them run fully driverless.

None of this touches home heating, cooling, insulation, or rebate programs, so it isn't something that changes any plans for upgrading your house. If you live in or travel to one of the newly listed cities, the practical takeaway is limited to transportation options, not anything tied to energy efficiency at home.
