Waymo goes driverless in Las Vegas, with Denver, San Diego, Tampa next
This is robotaxi news rather than home energy news, but it's worth a quick mention. Waymo, the self-driving car company owned by Google's parent Alphabet, has started running fully driverless cars (no human behind the wheel) in Las Vegas, with Denver, San Diego, and Tampa set to follow. The company already runs about 3,500 driverless vehicles in cities including Phoenix, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Austin, Atlanta, Miami, and others, and is aiming for 1 million paid rides a week by the end of 2026. Tesla's competing robotaxi service in Austin remains much smaller by comparison.
None of this changes anything about home energy upgrades or rebates directly. But the article closes with a reminder that electricity rates have climbed nearly 10% over the past year, and that home solar, including no-money-down lease or power purchase agreement options, is one way to lock in lower electricity costs as demand for power grows from things like EV charging and data centers. If you've been considering solar for your house, comparing quotes from vetted installers is a reasonable way to see what a system would cost and save for your specific home.
