Waaree to upgrade former Meyer Burger solar panel plant in Arizona
Waaree Solar Americas, the U.S. arm of India's Waaree Energies, plans to spend about $37 million to restart a solar panel plant in Goodyear, Arizona. The factory previously belonged to Meyer Burger, which made solar panels there for about a year before filing for bankruptcy in June 2025. Waaree bought the building and equipment and now plans to bring it back into production.
Once the upgrades are done, the Goodyear plant will be able to assemble 1.6 gigawatts of solar panels a year. Combined with Waaree's existing 3.2-gigawatt plant in Texas, that gives the company 4.8 gigawatts of U.S. panel assembly capacity total. Waaree says the Arizona site will produce "high-efficiency" panels, though it hasn't said which specific panel technology it will use there. Meyer Burger had specialized in a technology called heterojunction (HJT), a design that layers different materials to boost how much electricity a panel generates from sunlight. Meyer Burger's HJT patents were sold separately to a company called Swift Solar, which is developing its own HJT manufacturing plans.
For homeowners, this is mainly a manufacturing and supply story rather than a rebate or program change. It signals more U.S.-made solar panels becoming available, which can matter for buyers who want panels that qualify for "Made in America" incentives, but no such rebate details were included here.
