Volt makes a solar roof tile that interlocks with regular roof tiles, so the roof itself generates power instead of carrying bolted-on panels. The company had planned a US launch, but pulled back after facing headwinds for renewables there and has focused instead on Australia, where it now sells a full package: solar tiles, home batteries, heat pumps, and EV chargers, with one point of contact for the whole job. Volt has installed fifty roofs across Australia so far, mostly in Sydney and Melbourne, often when older homes get a new roof anyway.
For homeowners already planning to reroof, Volt says adding solar tiles costs roughly 10 to 15 percent more than the AU$40,000–50,000 reroofing job itself. One customer in Brisbane reported a 70 percent drop in their electricity bill within three weeks of switching on a Volt system. The company also points to a new Victorian scheme starting October 1, 2026, that lets its battery charge free from the grid between 11am and 2pm, up to 24 kWh a day, which can then run an EV overnight. Volt says some customers are seeing grid usage fall to zero, with combined savings around AU$8,000 a year on electricity and fuel.
This is Australia-focused news for now, with no US rollout date given. If solar roof tiles or a bundled solar-battery-heat pump-EV charger package interest you, it may be worth watching whether Volt or a similar product expands into your market, and checking what rebates or time-of-use electricity plans are available where you live.
