Volkswagen is clearing out ID.4 EVs with a $12,500 discount

September 25, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 28

Volkswagen is offering a $12,500 customer cash discount on its 2025 ID.4 electric SUV, an unusually deep markdown meant to clear out remaining stock. The company stopped building the current ID.4 at its Chattanooga, Tennessee plant in April, switching that factory over to gas-powered models, and says it has enough 2025 and 2026 ID.4 inventory to last into 2027. Even so, it's now pushing hard to sell off what's left, and Volkswagen says supply of the discounted 2025 models is "very limited." The 2026 ID.4 gets a smaller $6,000 discount by comparison. For scale, other VW SUVs like the Taos and Tiguan are only getting $2,000 to $3,000 knocked off.

If you're shopping for an EV, this could be a real opportunity. The base ID.4 Pro starts at $45,095 and gets up to 291 miles of range on a full charge, with all-wheel-drive versions running closer to 263 miles. A $12,500 discount brings the effective price down substantially. Volkswagen says these offers end November 2, 2026, and may vary depending on your state, so it's worth checking what's actually available near you.

Longer term, the ID.4 as we know it is being phased out. Volkswagen plans to replace it with a redesigned electric SUV, expected to be called the ID. Tiguan, which should arrive by the end of 2026 with a more traditional SUV look, an updated interior, and likely better range and charging speed than the current model.
