This is the new 18-in-1 electric vehicle you can build yourself

July 24, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 11

This one's a novelty rather than a home energy upgrade, but worth knowing about if you're curious about electric vehicles. A Canadian company called ENVO Drive Systems has introduced a modular electric vehicle platform, the Utility Personal Transporter, that buyers can configure into as many as 18 different vehicle types from one common base. Instead of buying a separate golf cart, utility ATV, cargo hauler, or low-speed vehicle for each job, you pick a chassis and customize the drivetrain, battery, wheels, seating, and cargo bed through an online 3D configurator, similar to building with building blocks.

Depending on configuration, features can include swappable battery packs, four-wheel drive, traction control for rough terrain, over-the-air software updates, phone connectivity, solar charging readiness, and weatherproofing. Pricing is expected to run from about $8,000 to $12,000. ENVO pitches it for farms, campuses, warehouses, and similar uses, though nothing rules out personal or recreational use.

Pre-orders are open now, with production starting in late fall and first deliveries expected in early 2027. This isn't tied to any home energy rebate or efficiency program, so it doesn't affect weatherization or heat pump plans. It's simply a new option in the small electric vehicle space, and one to watch if you've been wanting a utility vehicle that can change purpose over time rather than buying a new one for every task.
