This all-electric VinFast taxi service just debuted in Europe
This is news about electric taxis abroad, not something that touches your own home or energy upgrades. A Vietnamese company called Green SM, backed by the conglomerate Vingroup, has launched an all-electric taxi service in Copenhagen using VinFast VF 6 and VF 8 electric SUVs. It's the company's first city in Europe, after already running taxis in Vietnam, Laos, Indonesia, the Philippines, and India.
Unlike Uber, Green SM owns its cars and employs its drivers directly rather than working with independent contractors. The company says this gives it more control over maintenance and the customer experience, and drivers go through training on safety, service, and how to operate the EVs before they start driving. Riders book and pay through Green SM's own app, which shows the fare up front.
To get people to try it, Green SM is offering new Copenhagen customers discount vouchers worth 25% off a ride, capped at 100 Danish kroner (about $16) per trip, through September 30. The company says it plans to focus first on meeting Danish rules and getting its local operation running smoothly before expanding further, and it hasn't said which European city might be next.
There's no rebate, program, or upgrade here that applies to homeowners — this is simply a look at how one electric vehicle company is expanding its taxi business into Europe.
