The world’s largest EV company just partnered with an African electric motorcycle company
This is international news with no direct tie to home energy upgrades, but here's what happened: Yadea, a Chinese company that makes more electric two-wheelers than anyone else in the world, is partnering with Spiro, an African electric motorcycle company, to build electric motorcycles and scooters for African markets.
Spiro already runs more than 130,000 electric motorcycles across seven African countries, backed by over 2,500 battery-swapping stations, where riders trade a depleted battery for a charged one in minutes instead of waiting to plug in and recharge. Spiro says its riders have logged more than 50 million of these swaps and over two billion kilometers. Yadea will now supply electric two-wheelers for Spiro's markets, and the two companies plan to jointly design motorcycles built for local roads and heavy daily use by motorcycle taxi drivers and delivery riders. Spiro recently raised $270 million to keep expanding.
For homeowners, this doesn't affect any energy-efficiency programs, rebates, or equipment for your house. It's a look at how electric vehicle manufacturing and battery-swapping infrastructure are scaling up in a different part of the world, pairing Chinese manufacturing volume with Spiro's experience keeping electric motorcycles running all day in African conditions.
