The Hyundai IONIQ 5 is flying off dealer lots, and it’s getting harder to find

July 20, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 0

The Hyundai IONIQ 5 electric SUV is selling fast enough that some dealers are running out of stock. Reports from Vermont and Colorado dealerships describe buyers putting down payments and waiting for a vehicle to arrive, rather than picking one off the lot. Online inventory tools still show plenty of availability, so the shortage seems to be a local, dealer-by-dealer issue rather than a nationwide one.

Part of the appeal is price. The 2026 IONIQ 5 starts at $35,000, after Hyundai cut prices by nearly $10,000 on some trims once the federal EV tax credit expired last September. The SUV is now built in the US, which Hyundai says lets it pass savings on to buyers. Hyundai is also running a "Getaway Summer Sales Event" through Labor Day with 0% financing for up to 72 months, an extra $1,000 off, and 90 days before the first payment is due. Separately, leases start around $269 to $279 a month for 24 months with about $4,000 due at signing. Range varies by trim, from about 245 miles on the base version up to 318 miles on longer-range trims.

If you are considering an IONIQ 5, it may be worth checking with more than one dealer or looking at listing sites before assuming none are available, since supply seems to depend heavily on location.
