The BMW iX4 looks more like a grand tourer than an SUV [Images]

July 16, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 0

This story is about a new BMW electric vehicle, not a home energy topic, so it doesn't affect your house or any rebate planning. Still, here's what's happening: BMW has a new electric SUV coming, the 2027 iX4, spotted testing on roads in Munich. It will replace the current X4 and join BMW's "Neue Klasse" line of electric vehicles, which also includes the iX3 SUV and i3 sedan.

The iX4 will come in two all-wheel-drive versions and shares its battery and motor setup with the iX3. That means it should offer a large battery (around 112 kWh in the US), fast charging, and a long driving range, likely in the range of 400 miles or more on a full charge, based on the iX3's performance. Photos show a sportier, sloped-roof shape rather than a boxy SUV look, along with BMW's redesigned grille.

BMW hasn't released pricing yet, but expects the iX4 to cost somewhat more than the iX3, which starts at $61,500 in the US. The company plans to reveal full details and pricing closer to the car's debut, expected by the end of this year or in early 2027.

If you're weighing an electric vehicle purchase alongside home upgrades like a heat pump or added insulation, keep in mind that having an EV at home can affect your electricity use and may factor into decisions about home charging equipment, but this particular announcement is just a preview of a future model, not something with immediate cost or rebate implications for homeowners.
