The All-New VW ID. Polo Now Available with 37-kWh Battery — Affordable Entry into Electric Mobility

July 16, 2026 · CleanTechnica · Score: 0

Volkswagen has started pre-sales for a cheaper version of its ID. Polo electric car, this one with a smaller 37-kWh battery. It's aimed at people who want an affordable way into an electric vehicle for city driving and commuting, rather than long road trips. The range is up to 334 km on the WLTP test cycle, and it can charge from 10 to 80 percent in about 23 minutes at a fast-charging station. Prices start at 24,995 euros for the base Trend trim, with the Life and Style trims starting at 29,195 euros. These figures apply to the German market.

This is a European release, not a U.S. announcement, so it won't directly affect what's parked in your driveway. But it's a sign that automakers are pushing to make electric cars cheaper and more practical for everyday errands rather than only long-distance travel. That matters for anyone weighing an EV purchase alongside home upgrades like a level 2 charger, since a shorter-range, lower-cost EV changes the math on how much charging capacity you actually need at home.

The car itself comes in three trims. The base Trend includes driver-assist features and a 13-inch infotainment screen. The Life adds comfort items like adaptive cruise control and wireless phone charging. The top Style trim adds premium lighting and interior touches, plus optional extras like a sound system and massage seats. No U.S. pricing or availability has been announced.
