Tesla’s Cybertruck sales still unimpressive despite cheaper model

October 7, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 0

This isn't directly about home energy upgrades, but it touches on electric vehicles, so here's the gist. Tesla's Cybertruck sales remain far below the company's original goals, even after a cheaper version arrived. Tesla doesn't break out Cybertruck numbers on its own, but with the Model S and Model X no longer in production, estimates suggest Tesla delivered somewhere between 7,000 and 8,000 Cybertrucks in the third quarter of 2026. That works out to roughly 30,000 a year, well short of the 250,000-a-year pace Tesla once planned for the truck's production line.

A cheaper dual-motor version started reaching buyers in late June, and high gas prices have generally pushed more people toward electric vehicles, which likely helped sales. But Tesla then raised the Cybertruck's price by $5,000 in August, with the dual-motor trim now starting at $74,990. Despite the soft numbers, the Cybertruck is still the best-selling electric pickup in the US, ahead of the discontinued Ford F-150 Lightning, the Chevy Silverado EV, and the Rivian R1T.

If you're weighing an electric truck for your own driveway, or thinking about how it fits with home charging and solar plans, the Cybertruck's price increase and limited production numbers are worth keeping in mind. Supply has been inconsistent, and the truck remains a small slice of the EV truck market overall.
