Tesla (TSLA) Q3 2026 deliveries slip 2% to 486,532, but beat estimates
This is Tesla business news, not something that changes what's available to homeowners right now. Tesla delivered 486,532 vehicles in the third quarter of 2026, down slightly from the 497,099 it delivered a year earlier but ahead of what Wall Street expected. Last year's number was unusually high because US buyers rushed to use the $7,500 federal EV tax credit before it expired on September 30, 2025. Without that credit this year, the drop was smaller than analysts predicted, and high gas prices appear to be driving some of the ongoing demand for electric vehicles.
The Model 3 and Model Y made up nearly all the deliveries, while the Cybertruck, Semi, and remaining Model S/X inventory made up a much smaller and shrinking share. Tesla also delivered more cars than it built, meaning it worked down a backlog of unsold inventory from earlier in the year.
On the energy side, Tesla deployed 13.7 gigawatt-hours of battery storage products, up from a year ago but below what analysts expected. For homeowners, this is the category that includes home battery systems like the Powerwall, which can store solar power or backup energy for your house. The report itself doesn't change pricing, availability, or rebates for home solar or battery storage, but it's a sign the home energy storage market is growing more slowly than some expected this quarter.
