Tesla signs PPA for large solar + storage project in Arizona

July 28, 2026 · Solar Power World · Score: 15

Tesla has agreed to buy power from a large solar and battery project being built in Arizona. The project, called Sterling, is being developed by ContourGlobal and will include 509 megawatts of solar generation paired with 1.4 gigawatt-hours of battery storage. Construction started in 2025, and the project is expected to be fully up and running by 2028.

This is a large-scale power deal between two companies, not a residential program. The electricity from Sterling will connect to a regional grid system in the West and can also reach California's grid, allowing it to supply power to Tesla's operations. Deals like this help fund the buildout of solar and battery projects, which can add more clean power capacity to the regional grid over time.

For homeowners, this news does not involve any rebate, incentive, or program you can apply for. It is a corporate energy purchase, not a residential solar or storage offer. If you're weighing solar panels or battery storage for your own home, this project does not change what's available to you directly, though it reflects continued growth in solar and battery technology generally, which can influence equipment costs and availability over the longer term.
