Tesla Semi Moves Into Europe & Gets Largest Order To Date

August 23, 2026 · CleanTechnica · Score: 7

Tesla's electric semi truck, first shown off nearly a decade ago, is finally ramping up. Tesla began high-volume production of the Semi at its Nevada factory this past April, and the truck is now heading to Europe for the first time. Pricing and specs for the European version will come out at a trucking industry conference in Hannover, Germany, September 15–20.

In the US, the Semi starts at about $260,000 for a standard version with roughly 325 miles of range, and about $290,000 for a longer-range version with roughly 500 miles of range. Swedish logistics company Einride just placed an order for 500 of the trucks, Tesla's largest order yet, to run routes in California, New Jersey, Texas, Illinois, and Georgia hauling freight for companies like Amazon. Deliveries start in September.

None of this changes anything for homeowners directly. Electric semis are commercial vehicles used by freight and logistics companies, not something you'd buy or plug in at home. But it's a sign that heavy-duty electric trucking is moving from pilot projects toward real, large-scale use on US roads, and now into Europe as well. As more delivery fleets switch to electric trucks, it could mean less diesel exhaust and noise around distribution routes and warehouses over time, though that's a broader shift in freight, not a change to your household energy options or rebates.
