Tesla Robotaxi fleets are the new crypto treasury for zombie companies
This story is not about a home energy upgrade, but it touches on Tesla, a brand many homeowners know from EVs and solar. A small, struggling company called KIDZ AI, worth only about $2.4 million on the stock market, announced it wants to buy 500 Tesla Robotaxis (Tesla's self-driving "Cybercab" vehicles). The company used to be an online coding school for kids and has lost most of its value over the past year, including two reverse stock splits just to stay listed on the Nasdaq exchange.
Before this, the company tried cryptocurrency deals and AI data center ventures to boost its stock price, none of which worked. The Robotaxi announcement caused a brief jump in its stock, which quickly faded. Tesla has not even published a price for the Cybercab, but at the roughly $30,000 figure Elon Musk has mentioned, 500 of them would cost about $15 million, far more than the company is worth.
For homeowners, the direct takeaway is limited: this is a stock-market story about a shaky company using Tesla's name to attract attention, not a change to Tesla's products, home charging, or solar offerings. It's a reminder that splashy vehicle-fleet announcements from small companies don't necessarily reflect real business plans or Tesla's own strategy.
