Tesla opens search for Cybercab fleet sales, but FSD owners are still left out

September 4, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 2

This is Tesla and self-driving car news, not an energy-efficiency or home upgrade story, so it doesn't affect your house or any rebate programs. Briefly, here's what happened: Tesla opened an online form inviting companies to express interest in buying its two-seat "Cybercab" vehicles for fleet use, hosting charging and pickup hubs, or partnering on events. The form asks for contact details and which type of opportunity a business wants.

The catch is that regular Tesla owners who paid up to $15,000 for the company's "Full Self-Driving" software are still shut out. Tesla had told buyers their cars would become money-making assets once autonomy was solved, letting owners rent them out as robotaxis. That software has never been delivered to private owners, and this new form suggests Tesla is instead courting commercial fleet buyers rather than individual car owners.

None of this involves home energy equipment, weatherization, heat pumps, or rebate programs. If you own a Tesla and were hoping to eventually earn money through its self-driving software, this news doesn't change your situation — that capability still isn't available to individual owners, and today's announcement is aimed at businesses, not homeowners.
