Tesla opens 14 Semi Megacharger stalls between Atlanta and Savannah

October 9, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 21

Tesla has opened its first truck-charging stations in the Southeast, built for its electric Semi trucks rather than passenger cars. One site sits near Atlanta with 8 charging stalls, and the other is near Savannah with 6 stalls, each capable of up to 1.2 megawatts of power. The Savannah location is also the first one built at a Pilot truck stop, part of a partnership announced earlier this year. These are fast chargers meant for freight haulers, not something homeowners would plug into, but they're a sign of how charging infrastructure keeps expanding.

For most homeowners this doesn't change anything about your own home or driveway charger. It's really about highway freight: trucks moving goods between the Savannah port and Atlanta can now run on electricity instead of diesel for that route. More sites are planned in California, Texas, Nevada, and Indiana, with Tesla aiming for dozens of locations by early next year, though progress so far is behind that goal.

The broader takeaway, if there is one, is the same logic that applies to home energy: generating or using your own electricity can be cheaper and more predictable than depending on fuel you have to buy, whether that fuel is diesel for a truck or electricity from a rising-cost grid. With electricity rates climbing, some homeowners are looking at solar as a way to lock in costs, though that's a separate decision from anything happening with truck chargers in Georgia.
