Tesla loses another top chip engineer to ex-Dojo startup DensityAI

August 24, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 0

This is a Tesla company news story with no direct tie to home energy upgrades, but here is what happened. A senior Tesla chip engineer, Shishuang Sun, has left the company to join DensityAI, a startup founded by former leaders of Tesla's shuttered Dojo supercomputer project. Sun spent more than five years at Tesla working on the hardware behind its custom AI chips, including packaging, power delivery, and thermal engineering — the work that turns a chip design into something that actually functions in a real device. He had been promoted to Senior Director of AI Hardware Design just months before leaving.

DensityAI was started by Tesla's former Dojo chief and has already pulled in roughly 20 engineers from that team. The company builds AI chips and hardware for data centers, automotive, robotics, and industrial customers, which overlaps with the work Tesla walked away from when it shut down Dojo and turned to Nvidia for AI training power.

For homeowners, this doesn't connect to any energy-efficiency program, rebate, or Tesla product like home batteries or solar. It's a story about a talent shift inside the AI chip industry, not a change to any home energy technology or incentive currently available.
