Tesla confirms Semi electric truck is coming to Europe, reveal at IAA
Tesla says its Semi electric truck is finally coming to Europe, with full specs, pricing, and launch details to be revealed at IAA Transportation in Hannover, Germany, September 15-20. Tesla has talked about a European launch before without following through, so this is the clearest sign yet that it's actually happening. What's not yet known is the price in euros or where the European trucks will be built.
This is a commercial trucking story, not something that affects home energy upgrades directly. But it does say something about where electric vehicle technology stands. The Semi is already in real production at a Tesla plant in Nevada built to make 50,000 trucks a year, and it comes in two versions: a shorter-range model rated at 325 miles and a longer-range one at 500 miles, both with fast charging. In the US, Tesla has priced these trucks lower than competing electric semis, though it's not clear if that price edge will carry over to Europe, where established truck makers like Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, MAN, Scania, and others already sell electric long-haul trucks with dealer networks and service already in place.
For homeowners, there's no direct action here. It's simply a sign that battery and fast-charging technology keeps improving and scaling up, the same technology that also shows up in home batteries and EV chargers.
