Subaru is delaying the 3-row Getaway EV, following Toyota

July 22, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 0

Subaru is pushing back production of its new three-row electric SUV, the Getaway EV, following a similar delay from Toyota on its 2027 Highlander EV. Subaru said the pause is meant to allow "final adjustments" before launch, echoing Toyota's earlier statement. The two vehicles share a modified version of Toyota's TNGA-K electric platform and are built at the same Kentucky plant, so the delay isn't a big surprise. Toyota's Highlander delay ran about eight weeks, and the Getaway could see something similar. It was originally expected to start production this fall and go on sale by the end of 2026; it's still expected to arrive in late 2026 or early 2027.

For homeowners weighing an EV purchase, this is a car buying story, not a home energy one. Once available, the Getaway is planned to come with a 95.8 kWh battery offering over 300 miles of range, plus a smaller 77 kWh standard model arriving in 2027. It will offer six- or seven-seat layouts, up to 45.6 cubic feet of cargo space, all-wheel drive, 420 horsepower, and fast charging (10% to 80% in about 30 minutes at up to 150 kW) through a standard NACS charging port, the same plug style used by Tesla's Supercharger network.

Subaru's newer EVs, the Solterra, Trailseeker, and Uncharted, have been selling well in the US so far this year. The Getaway delay doesn't change any home charging or rebate considerations; it's simply a shift in when this particular model will reach dealer lots.
