SolarEdge develops power control system for C&I solar market

September 8, 2026 · Solar Power World · Score: 23

SolarEdge has released a new power control system for commercial and industrial solar projects, not for homes. The system, certified under UL 3141, builds power controls directly into SolarEdge's inverter rather than requiring separate external control equipment. The goal is to make it easier for businesses to connect larger solar systems to the grid while dealing with utility rules that limit how much power a system can send back to the grid.

The company says this helps commercial customers get more solar generation from their existing electrical setup without extra cost or complexity. In California, the system can support projects that need to limit or avoid exporting power to the grid, including certain paths under the state's Rule 21 interconnection rules, and it can help some systems expand while keeping their older net metering terms (NEM 2.0) intact.

This news is aimed at businesses and commercial solar installers, not residential rooftop systems. If you're a homeowner considering solar, it doesn't change what's available to you directly, but it's a sign that utilities are tightening rules around how much solar power can be sent back to the grid, a trend that has already affected residential net metering programs in states like California. If your own state has moved to newer, less generous net metering rules, it's worth checking how that could affect the payback on a home solar system before you sign a contract.
