Solar Spotlight: The AI-powered future of solar field operations

July 8, 2026 · Solar Power World · Score: 28

This is mostly industry news, but a couple of points touch on homeowners weighing solar. The One Big Beautiful Bill Act removed the federal tax incentive that homeowners could claim for buying solar outright, and solar companies are still adjusting to that change. But the law didn't touch the tax break available to third-party ownership (TPO) providers — companies that own the panels on your roof and sell you the power or lease you the system rather than you buying it outright. Because that incentive is still in place for TPO providers, this financing model has become the more cost-effective option for homeowners going solar right now, and more residential installs are being done this way.

Behind the scenes, solar installers are also adopting software and AI tools to speed up paperwork tied to these financing deals — things like verifying photos and documentation before a homeowner's project gets approved and paid for. One company mentioned, SiteCapture, says its tools helped one financing partner raise first-time paperwork approval rates from around 30% to around 90%, cut repeat truck visits by up to 80%, and reduce back-office work by about 70%. For a homeowner, faster approvals and fewer callback visits could mean a smoother, quicker installation process, though the specific benefit would depend on which installer and financing company you use.
