Schneider Electric’s upgraded app-free EV charger now has NACS
Schneider Electric has updated its Charge Pro Level 2 EV charger, a commercial charging station used at apartment buildings, workplaces, and public charging sites. The update adds support for NACS, the Tesla-style plug now becoming standard across the industry, alongside the older J1772 connector. That matters because it means more EVs, including Teslas, can plug in without an adapter at locations using this charger.
The new version also drops the requirement for a charging app. Drivers can start a session by scanning a QR code instead of creating an account, which is meant to help people who charge only occasionally, such as hotel guests. The charger comes with a year of included software for the site owner to monitor usage and manage access, a five-year hardware warranty, and a faster setup process. Schneider says the system can also work with its broader electrical equipment, like panelboards and switchgear, to manage power use so a site can add chargers without needing a full electrical upgrade.
This is aimed at businesses and building owners installing shared or public charging, not at single-family homes. But if you live in an apartment, use a workplace charger, or rely on charging at hotels or other public spots, this kind of upgrade could mean easier, app-free charging and more compatibility with your car's plug type at newly installed stations. The charger is now available through Schneider's distributors and certified installers.
