Rivian rolls out RivianOS 2, unifying software across R1 and R2
This is car software news, not a home energy upgrade story, but it touches on EVs, which some homeowners are pairing with solar or home chargers. Rivian is rolling out RivianOS 2, a major update to the software that runs its vehicles. Starting with version 2026.31, it brings every Rivian model, the original R1, the newer R1, and the R2, onto one shared software base for the first time, though the exact graphics and features still vary a bit by hardware.
The update redesigns the in-car screen layout, adds real-time alerts for police and speed cameras through the map, and expands an AI assistant called Rivian Unified Intelligence that can control parts of the car by voice. Two extras, a weather app with air-quality data and a 10-day forecast, and a feature that lets you manage an active trip from your phone, are only available to owners who pay for Rivian's Connect+ subscription, priced at $14.99 a month or $149.99 a year. Rivian also added privacy controls letting owners limit location sharing and turn off voice wake-words.
If you own a Rivian, this update should reach your vehicle automatically. For homeowners charging an EV at home, it doesn't change charging equipment or costs, it's purely a software and interface upgrade to the vehicle itself.
