RFP alert: DTE Energy seeks 800 MW from projects located in MISO states

July 28, 2026 · PV Magazine USA · Score: 23

DTE Energy, Michigan's largest utility, plans to seek 800 megawatts of new solar and wind power through a request for proposals it will issue on August 11, 2026. The power will go toward its Voluntary Green Pricing program, which lets customers pay to have more of their electricity come from renewable sources. Projects must be up and running by the end of 2030.

Notably, this is the first time DTE has looked beyond Michigan for these projects. Eligible sites now include parts of Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Texas, and Wisconsin, along with Michigan, as long as they fall within specific grid zones set by the regional grid operator MISO. Projects connected directly to DTE's local power lines also qualify.

For homeowners, this isn't something you sign up for directly, but it points to where green pricing programs are headed. Michigan's Voluntary Green Pricing programs are set by state law and reviewed every two years by state regulators, and they've become a major source of new renewable energy growth in the state. If you're a DTE customer already enrolled in green pricing, or thinking about it, this expansion means the utility is casting a wider net to meet demand, rather than relying only on in-state projects. It's a sign that interest in paying extra for renewable power has kept growing, and utilities are working to keep up with it.
