Rare 50% discount: Become one of the first LEED v5 experts with a LEED AP with Specialty

August 14, 2026 · US Green Building Council (USGBC) · Score: 48

This news is about a professional certification program, not something that affects your home directly. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is a rating system used to certify buildings as energy efficient and environmentally sound. The organization behind it, GBCI, is rolling out a new version, LEED v5, and offering building professionals a discount to take the exam that certifies them as experts in it.

Specifically, GBCI is giving a 50% discount on the "LEED AP with Specialty" exam, plus 50% off a second attempt if someone doesn't pass the first time. The discount runs from June 30 to October 27, 2026, with a requirement to register and schedule by October 21 and test by October 27. This applies to three specialty tracks: building design and construction, interior design and construction, and operations and maintenance. To qualify, a person needs an active LEED Green Associate credential first.

For a homeowner, this doesn't change any rebate, program deadline, or upgrade option for your own house. It simply means more architects, builders, and building operators may be getting certified in the newer LEED standards this year. If you're working with a contractor or designer on a project that involves LEED certification, this could be relevant to their credentials, but it has no direct bearing on financing, rebates, or equipment choices for a home energy upgrade.
