Radar EV Pickup Sales More Than Double in Philippines as Electric Trucks Gain Traction
This one is about vehicles, not home upgrades, so it won't affect your energy retrofit plans. But here's what happened: electric pickup trucks are picking up sales in the Philippines. UAAGI Auto Group, which distributes the battery-electric Radar RD6 pickup there, sold 112 units in June, more than double the 44 it sold in May. Other electrified pickups are also gaining ground in that market, including the plug-in hybrid BYD Shark 6 and a Dongfeng electric truck.
The RD6 starts at roughly $25,230 for its base version and can travel up to 443 kilometers on a charge, or over 1,000 kilometers combined in its plug-in hybrid form. One feature worth noting: it can supply up to 3.5 kilowatts of power through outlets built into the cabin and cargo bed, enough to run tools or appliances without a separate generator. That kind of vehicle-to-load capability is starting to show up in electric trucks more broadly, and it points to a future where an EV in the driveway could double as backup power during an outage.
Nothing here changes what's available to US homeowners today, and none of these trucks are sold domestically. But it's a sign of where electric truck technology is headed globally, including power-sharing features that could eventually matter if you're weighing an EV as part of your home's backup power or electrification plans.
