Pilot hits new EV milestone with 300th DC fast charging location

July 19, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 23

Pilot Flying J now has more than 300 travel center locations with DC fast chargers, the type of high-speed public charging that can add significant range to an EV in well under an hour. The company just opened two new travel centers, in Chicopee, Massachusetts, and Ponce de Leon, Florida, and finished upgrades at other locations across 13 states. Together these changes added 50 new public fast-charging sites, bringing the total network to 309 locations with 1,323 individual charging ports.

For anyone driving an EV, this matters mainly for road trips rather than home charging. Pilot and Flying J are positioning these stops as more than just a place to plug in: they offer 24/7 monitoring, lighting, and, at many locations, canopies to shield drivers from bad weather while they charge, along with the usual travel center food and convenience items.

The bigger picture is the pace of growth. Pilot went from 200 charging locations to over 300 in less than a year, a 50 percent jump in public charging spots along highways and travel corridors. For homeowners weighing whether to buy an electric vehicle, this kind of expansion chips away at one of the biggest hesitations people have: worry about finding a charger on a long drive. It doesn't change anything about charging at home, but it does mean more backup options are showing up along common travel routes across the country.
