NIO (NIO) Q3 deliveries rise 25%, but September growth slows to 7.7%
This is a car industry story, not a home energy upgrade one, but the home connection shows up at the end: if you're considering an electric vehicle, pairing it with home solar can cut fueling costs close to zero, since you'd be charging from your own panels instead of paying utility rates.
On the car news itself, Chinese EV maker NIO delivered about 109,000 vehicles in the third quarter of 2026, up 25% from a year earlier and within the range it had predicted. But growth slowed each month, ending with just 7.7% growth in September, the weakest pace this year. The company's premium NIO brand, led by the ES8 and new ES9 SUV, is doing well, and its smaller FIREFLY brand had its best month yet. Its mainstream ONVO brand, though, has fallen sharply, down 43% in September, which is dragging down the overall numbers. NIO's financial health is improving, with better profit margins and a recent deal selling part of its battery-swap business to Geely.
For a homeowner, the direct takeaway is simple: if an EV purchase is on your radar, electricity costs to charge it depend heavily on your rate plan, and rooftop solar is one way to lower or largely eliminate that ongoing cost. Financing options like leases or power-purchase agreements can let you add solar with no money down.
