Nextpower’s eBOS trunk bus receives patent

August 20, 2026 · Solar Power World · Score: 12

Nextpower has received a patent for its NX PowerMerge, a device used in large, utility-scale solar farms. It's part of a system called electrical balance of systems (eBOS), which is the wiring and hardware that connects solar panels to the power grid. This particular product is a "trunk bus," a piece of equipment that combines wiring from many solar panel strings into a single connection point, simplifying installation across big solar fields.

This news is about equipment used in large commercial and utility solar projects, not home solar systems. It has no direct bearing on rooftop solar installations or home energy upgrades.

The company BUILD Renewables has placed orders for this product for its own solar project pipeline, bringing Nextpower's total backlog to more than 2 gigawatts worth of orders. This reflects growth in the utility-scale solar industry and demand for equipment that speeds up construction and reduces wiring errors on large solar farms, but it doesn't affect what's available to homeowners installing solar panels or other energy-efficiency equipment on their own property.
