New Porsche boss says electric 718 is still coming, Taycan isn’t going anywhere
This is car industry news and doesn't have much to do with home energy upgrades, but here's the gist: Porsche's new CEO, Michael Leiters, says the company will move forward with an electric version of its 718 sports car, ending months of rumors that the model might be canceled. He also confirmed the Taycan, Porsche's electric sedan, will stick around, though the lineup of variants may get trimmed down. Porsche's electric SUVs, the Macan and Cayenne, are already selling well as battery models.
Leiters also weighed in on European climate rules, arguing the EU's electric vehicle targets are moving faster than real-world demand and pushing for more flexibility, including allowing synthetic "e-fuels" as an alternative to going fully electric. E-fuels are made from captured carbon and hydrogen, but producing them takes far more energy than charging a battery directly, and burning them still creates tailpipe pollution.
None of this changes anything about home energy incentives, heat pumps, or weatherization programs. It's a look at how one major automaker is navigating the shift to electric vehicles, and a reminder that EV charging at home, whether for a Porsche or any other electric car, is one more reason some homeowners pair a home charger with rooftop solar to cut charging costs.
