Midea Invests in HVAC Innovation, Contractor Training

October 8, 2026 · ACHR News · Score: 42

Midea, the manufacturer behind a range of residential air conditioners and heat pumps, has expanded its research and training center in Louisville, Kentucky, to 157,000 square feet. The update includes a new 16,000-square-foot lab for developing and testing home HVAC and water-heating equipment, plus a showroom where contractors can get hands-on training.

For homeowners, this is mostly background news about where the equipment on the market comes from, not something that changes your options right away. The lab work is focused on "all-climate" heat pumps — units designed to heat and cool effectively even in very hot or cold weather — and Midea's EVOX platform, a newer line of HVAC products. Midea says the goal is to make installation and replacement simpler for the contractors who do the work in your home, and to train those contractors more thoroughly, including courses certified by North American Technician Excellence (NATE), a group that certifies HVAC technician skills.

The practical takeaway is indirect: more investment in training and testing can mean better-installed, more reliable equipment down the road, and possibly faster rollout of improved heat-pump models suited to a wider range of climates. But this announcement doesn't introduce a new rebate, product launch date, or price change you can act on now. It's a sign of where one major manufacturer is putting its resources as heat pumps continue to expand across the U.S. market.
