Mercedes teases its upcoming 1,000+hp AMG electric SUV
This one is not really about home energy upgrades, but here's the news: Mercedes has teased an electric SUV from its high-performance AMG division, expected to share technology with the 1,153-horsepower AMG GT four-door sedan the company showed earlier this year. Photos posted on AMG's social media show a covered, sporty-looking SUV with headlight and taillight styling similar to the GT sedan, though details are still hidden under wraps.
The GT sedan this SUV is based on uses some notable technology: axial flux motors (a compact, power-dense electric motor design), 800-volt fast charging that can add 280 miles of range in 11 minutes, and a silicon-anode battery, a newer battery chemistry built for faster charging. If the SUV shares this drivetrain, it would bring very fast charging speeds to a larger, more practical vehicle body style. Mercedes has also hinted there could be more than one SUV size built on the same high-power platform.
For homeowners with home EV chargers or solar setups, faster-charging technology like this is worth watching, since it points to where charging speeds are headed industry-wide, even though this particular vehicle is a high-performance, high-price model rather than a mainstream option. No release date, price, or specific range and horsepower figures for the SUV itself have been announced yet.
