LiuGong brings electric heavy equipment options to North America [video]

July 18, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 15

This news is about heavy equipment, not home upgrades, but it's a sign of where electric technology is heading. LiuGong, a Chinese equipment maker, has launched battery-electric construction machines in the US and Canada, including wheel loaders, an excavator, and a large reach stacker used at ports and rail yards. The company says it has over 15 years of experience with electric equipment and more than 60,000 electric machines already working worldwide.

LiuGong claims its electric machines cost 40% to 50% less to run than similar diesel equipment, due to lower fuel, maintenance, and parts costs. The battery packs and motors come with a warranty of five years or 10,000 hours of use. The company also plans to bring electric forklifts, warehouse equipment, and other material handlers to North America over the next year and a half.

None of this involves home energy equipment or rebates, so it has no direct bearing on heat pumps, weatherization, or other residential upgrades. It's worth knowing about mainly as a sign that battery-electric technology is expanding into heavy industrial equipment, following the same cost and maintenance logic that's driving electric options in homes and vehicles.
