Lamborghini says EV tech ‘not mature enough,’ pushes first EV past 2030

July 15, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 1

Lamborghini has pushed back its plans for an electric car again. The automaker's Lanzador, first shown as an all-electric concept in 2023, will now launch as a plug-in hybrid instead, likely using a version of the V8 hybrid system from its Urus SUV. A company product director says Lamborghini's first fully electric model won't arrive until sometime after 2030. The company says its buyers simply weren't interested in an electric Lamborghini, and argues the technology isn't ready yet, though it says background work on batteries and software is continuing.

This is mostly a story about the luxury car market, not something that changes options for typical homeowners today. But it's a useful data point if you're weighing an electric vehicle purchase alongside home upgrades like solar panels or a home charger: while ultra-luxury brands like Lamborghini are holding back, rivals such as Porsche, Ferrari, Bentley, and Chinese brand BYD's Yangwang are moving ahead with electric performance models, and mainstream EV options keep expanding regardless.

If you already own or are planning to buy an EV, the bigger relevant point for your home is charging costs. Pairing a home charger with rooftop solar can lock in lower electricity costs over time, which matters more for your budget than what any single automaker decides about its EV timeline.
