Kia launches three new GT EVs, including an electric hot hatch and two SUVs [Images]
This is a car story, not a home energy story, so it has little to do with upgrading your house. Kia has released performance versions of three electric vehicles, adding sportier "GT" trims to its EV3, EV4, and EV5 models. These join Kia's existing electric GT lineup, which already includes the EV6 GT and EV9 GT.
The new models use a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup and a larger 81.4 kWh battery for more power and quicker acceleration. The EV3 GT makes 288 horsepower and hits 0-62 mph in 5.7 seconds, with up to 311 miles of range. The EV4 GT, sold as a hatchback or fastback, is the quickest of the three at 5.6 seconds, with range up to 333 miles depending on body style. The EV5 GT, an SUV, produces 301 horsepower, reaches 0-62 mph in 6.2 seconds, and offers up to 295 miles of range. All three get sportier styling, bucket seats, and a synthetic engine-sound system meant to mimic a gas car.
In Germany, prices start at roughly $62,500 for the EV3 GT, $67,000 for the EV4 GT, and $69,500 for the EV5 GT. Kia has not announced UK pricing yet, and the EV4 GT fastback won't be sold there. For US buyers, only the EV3 GT is coming, starting at $45,890 with 280 miles of EPA-rated range. The EV4 GT and EV5 GT are not planned for the American market.
