Kia launches the EV4 GT in Canada, bringing more power and attitude
Kia has added a sportier GT version of its EV4 electric sedan, but only in Canada. The standard EV4 already launched there late last year as Canada's cheapest EV, starting around CA$38,995. The new EV4 GT starts at CA$58,595 (CA$61,344 with fees) and is available now as a factory order at Kia dealerships. It comes with a bigger 81.4 kWh battery, Kia-estimated range of 431 km (267 miles), and a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup producing 288 horsepower and 345 lb-ft of torque — a step up from the standard front-wheel-drive EV4's 201 horsepower. GT extras include neon-accented brake calipers, suede-style seats, 20-inch wheels, and a heads-up display that projects speed and navigation onto the windshield.
None of this is available to US homeowners considering an EV, at least not yet. Kia said almost a year ago it was delaying the EV4 for the US market indefinitely, and there's been no update since. So if you're shopping for an electric car in the US, the EV4 and EV4 GT aren't options right now.
Kia did bring the smaller EV3 to the US, starting at $29,890, making it one of the more affordable EVs sold here. It's also become Kia's cheapest EV in Canada. For anyone weighing an EV purchase alongside other home energy upgrades, like a heat pump or added charging equipment, the EV3 is the Kia model actually on sale in the US, while the EV4 remains a Canada-only choice for now.
