Kia expects its bigger electric vans to outsell the PV5 as it targets 250,000 by 2030
This is automaker news, not a home-energy story, but here's what's happening. Kia is expanding its lineup of electric commercial vans, with plans to sell 250,000 of them by 2030. The company just unveiled a new mid-size model, the PV7, which will join its existing PV5 van and an upcoming larger PV9. Kia now expects the PV7 and PV9 combined to outsell the PV5, reversing its earlier sales forecast.
These vans are aimed at businesses and fleets, such as delivery companies, rather than individual homeowners. Kia says it's already in talks with more than 300 companies and has secured orders from firms including Bravida, the UK's Motability, and Finnish elevator maker Kone. The PV7 is set to go on sale in Korea and Europe in the second half of 2027, with other regions to follow, including the Middle East and Asia-Pacific.
Notably, Kia's CEO said the company is not currently planning to bring the PV7 to the United States, citing the long driving distances typical of American delivery routes as a challenge for converting such vehicles to electric power. So this rollout will mainly affect commercial fleets overseas, not vehicle choices for US households. There's no rebate, incentive, or home-charging angle here for homeowners to weigh in on.
