Kia EV3 caught driving in New York as its US launch inches closer [Images]

August 10, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 0

Kia's electric SUV, the EV3, is close to hitting the US market after being spotted driving in New York. Production began in early August at Kia's Mexico plant, and sales are expected to start by the end of 2026. The EV3 is a smaller, more affordable electric SUV that carries over many features from Kia's larger EV9.

The base model uses a 58.3 kWh battery rated for up to 220 miles of range, while a larger 81.4 kWh battery option offers up to 320 miles of range on front-wheel-drive versions. All-wheel drive is available on some trims and standard on others, and fast charging can bring the battery from 10% to 80% in under 35 minutes. All versions use the NACS charging plug, the same connector Tesla uses, which is becoming the standard across the industry. Inside, the EV3 gets a modern dashboard with nearly 30 inches of combined screen space and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Kia hasn't announced official pricing yet, but the EV3 is expected to start around $35,000, which would make it one of the cheaper electric vehicles sold in the US. For homeowners weighing an EV purchase alongside home charging or solar plans, this adds another lower-cost option to the market, positioned as slightly larger and longer-range than vehicles like the Chevy Bolt or Nissan Leaf.
