JET Charge Helps The Fleet Transition

September 15, 2026 · CleanTechnica · Score: 9

This is a story about Australia's trucking industry, not something that directly touches your own house, but it's a window into how fast electric vehicles are moving into commercial use. JET Charge, a company that builds EV charging infrastructure, says diesel prices in Australia have gotten so high that switching heavy delivery fleets to electric now saves real money, not just marginal amounts. The company's CEO says a fleet of 100 heavy vehicles could see a difference of up to AU$4.5 million by going electric, and that gap is expected to grow as diesel prices keep rising.

The bigger point is about charging, not the vehicles themselves. Companies like IKEA found that their delivery partners wanted to go electric but couldn't afford to build charging stations at their depots. Once IKEA paid to install 59 chargers across 7 locations, its share of zero-emission deliveries jumped from 5 percent in 2022 to 83 percent by October 2025. JET Charge argues that once the charging problem is solved, the switch to electric follows quickly.

None of this changes anything at home right now. But it's a sign of how quickly the economics of electric transportation are shifting when fuel costs rise, which is useful context if you're weighing your own eventual move from a gas vehicle to an electric one, or just curious how fast this technology is spreading beyond passenger cars.
