Investing in the Next Generation Through Scholarships

The Building Performance Association, a trade group for the home energy efficiency industry, has been offering scholarships to help newcomers attend its conferences. These events cover topics like home energy audits, insulation, and heat pumps, and bring together new workers, business owners, and experienced professionals in the field. Through the Mike Rogers Memorial Scholarship Fund, the group has awarded over $117,000 to more than 215 people so far, covering conference costs for those who couldn't otherwise afford to attend.

This news is mostly about the industry itself rather than something that changes how you'd plan a home upgrade. But it's a sign of how the field that installs and inspects energy improvements — audits, insulation, heat pumps — is training its workforce. A more experienced, better-connected pool of energy auditors and contractors can mean more knowledgeable help when you're ready to look into upgrades or rebates for your own house.

The group is currently accepting scholarship applications for its upcoming Alaska Home Performance Conference & Trade Show, with this being the last week to apply. This is aimed at people entering or working in the industry, not homeowners directly, but it's worth knowing the field is actively bringing in new talent as demand for home energy upgrades grows.
