I tested this lithium-ion battery charging cabinet as the safest place to charge your e-bike batteries
If you charge e-bike or power tool batteries at home, a new type of storage cabinet is meant to make that safer. The Yolin lithium-ion battery charging cabinet looks like an ordinary steel shop cabinet but is built specifically for charging lithium batteries. Inside, it has built-in outlets for multiple chargers, a temperature-controlled fan that switches on only when needed, and its own smoke alarm so you would know quickly if something went wrong while you were in another room.
The main safety feature is automatic fire suppression built into the cabinet, designed to trigger if it senses the extreme heat of a battery fire (called thermal runaway). Combined with double-wall steel construction, the goal is to contain a fire rather than let it spread through a garage or home. The maker says the design references European fire-resistance standards and is meant to hold up for up to 90 minutes.
Yolin sells two sizes: a smaller "Urban" cabinet for $599, good for charging one or two batteries in an apartment or garage, and a larger "Workshop" model for $899 with more shelving and six outlets, aimed at people with several e-bikes, tools, or a small fleet of batteries. Both take up the same floor space, so the choice comes down to how much charging capacity you need. For someone with a single e-bike charged occasionally, normal charging habits are probably enough. For a household with multiple bikes or battery-powered tools, a cabinet like this offers an extra layer of protection, at a real cost.
