How Is Tesla Offering 0% Financing?

July 15, 2026 · CleanTechnica · Score: 18

Tesla is currently offering 0% financing on some vehicles, including the Model Y, which is worth paying attention to if you're weighing an EV purchase. With average car loan rates elsewhere running around 6-7%, a 0% rate amounts to a real discount, since Tesla is effectively covering the interest cost itself rather than lowering the sticker price. On a roughly $36,690 car loan at 6% interest over six years, the total interest would run about $7,222 — money you would not pay under Tesla's 0% offer. The current terms shown on Tesla's site call for about $3,300 down on a $39,990 Model Y, with loan terms up to 72 months, and stretching to 84 months in some cases.

For a buyer, this is essentially free money that lowers the real cost of owning the car, even though the listed price stays the same. It is different from a price cut, since Tesla likely could not simply sell the car for thousands less without taking a loss, but the effect on your wallet is similar: less money paid out over the life of the loan.

Zooming out, offering 0% financing broadly across the country also signals that Tesla is working hard to keep sales moving as its profit per vehicle has been shrinking. That does not change whether the deal is good for an individual buyer, but it is useful context if you are comparing this financing offer against other EVs or against your own home energy upgrade budget, since incentives like this can shift the math on what you can afford this year.
