Honda just unveiled an electric mountain bike, and it looks serious

September 22, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 0

This isn't really about home energy upgrades, but here's the news in plain terms: Honda has unveiled a prototype electric mountain bike, marking its return to mountain biking after roughly two decades away. The company showed it off at a bike event in Girona, Spain, and is already letting people sign up online to register interest, describing the bike as "almost here."

The bike itself looks built for serious off-road riding rather than casual use. It has a carbon frame developed with German e-bike maker Rotwild, a distinctive rear swingarm Honda calls the "Gullarm," a Fox 36 suspension fork, and mismatched wheel sizes (29 inches front, 27.5 inches rear) common on aggressive trail bikes. It uses a Shimano mid-drive motor, though the motor casing looks slightly different from Shimano's current model, which has led to speculation that a new motor version could be involved.

Honda hasn't released details on battery size, weight, price, what it will be called, or which countries will get it. But the fact that Honda is collecting interest sign-ups suggests this is heading toward an actual product launch rather than just a design concept. If you're a homeowner interested in electric bikes generally, this is one to watch for future pricing and availability news, but there's nothing yet to act on.
